McCain has an uphill battle to win the conservative base to his side.

IMO, John has "gravitas" issues. He comes of, at least to me, as less than an inspiring leader. To much waffle; too much fluff.

If he tries to run, we will see a Muskie in the streets of New Hampshire. (For the youngsters, that's a public weeping moment when meanies say ugly things about you or your wifr.)

Hey don-o,

I agree. I have been impressed by him though. The case he made for the Iraq war at the 2004 RNC convention was without rival and his jab at Michael Moore was priceless. I'm sure his liberal fawners with Republican fetishes were slack jawed after that but still McCain has this fly-in-the-soup tendency which he can't seem to shake.
