In Los Angeles, if you are a male named as the father of a child
and you don't respond to a summons for a hearing on the matter...
good chance you'll get a default judgement and end up paying for the next
18 years.
Even if the kid is not yours.

Even if the kid is not yours. I remember seeing then-D.A. Gil Garcetti on TV talking about this, and he was smiling about it, looking very proud of himself that this unjust law exists in CA. It was sickening.
