Duke Cunnigham pleads guilty to felony. It is indeed a tragedy how such a patriot could have become so corrupt.

When's the special election to replace him? Hopefully a conservative Republican can get 50% in the primary so that we can avoid having to wait a couple of months for a run-off. I'd hate a repeat of what happened in Cox's CD when Gilchrist kept Campbell from getting the extra 4% he needed for a majority, which would have allowed Campbell to get sworn in immediately instead of having to wait 2 months during which time his district has gone unrepresented.

How is it a tragedy? Any person that rises to the level to run for office in Washington DC has by default some corruption in their past. You don't think those hacks do it because they care about their constituency do you?

I believe he had previously announced he was retireing..i.e. not running again...that was before this plea...whent he news of the sweetheart house deal from a defense contractor became public...I don't know if he is now required to resign..but special elections to fill House vacanies are usually held within 2 months..Given the holiday season, if he resigns, to avoid being tossed out..I'd look for an early March special election.

He's not left Congress, yet, so we don't know when. This should be Howard Kaloogian's to win, although it will be a wide field. It is very unfortunate for Mr. Cunningham to end his career on this sad note. For those 'Rats who will utilize Cunningham's conviction to score political points, one only merely look at the vast bulk of their party for seeing truly criminal conduct. As bad as Cunningham was in poor personal judgment, he didn't commit treason or sedition and actively cheer America's enemies.
