Crap. He didn't have to do this. Duke should be remembered for winning the greatest single air-to-air engagement of the Vietnam War, the encounter between "Showtime 100" and the MiG-17 of the fabled "Colonel Tomb".

And IIRC, getting himself and his fellow officer back home despite having
the rear half of his plane finally burn off.
I got scared just watching the animated re-enactment on The History Channel.

A few weeks ago the History Channel had a show on famous dogfights and this encounter was one of the featured ones. They did a good job of going into detail about it.
