I think that the parents did wrong, but I also think that willful ignorance of your child's habits is just as wrong. Simply sending them to an abstinance-only sex ed and then blithely assuming that they're not going to have sex is naive at best.

All of which might well be correct, in context, but there's no evidence here that this 14 year old had attended any "abstinence only" classes. On the other hands, we know she was given a birth control patch.

Frankly, you guys were giving the parents the wrong advice.
