Did you happen to miss this part?

The conference was attended by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Iraqi Shiite and Kurdish lawmakers, as well as leading Sunni politicians.

Hello? You are missing the point completely. It's the question of defining "terrorists" that should have you worried. Everyone already knows we aren't going anywhere soon, but this is unacceptable on the question of what constitutes a "terrorist". All 3 groups came up with this horse shit.

Hello? I was speaking about the American media and political reaction.

"The communique included no means for implementing its provisions, leaving it unclear what it will mean in reality other than to stand as a symbol of a first step toward bringing the feuding parties together in an agreement in principle."

Just the same old, typical BS.

And, everything that was siad is meaningless politics to make the Sunnis happy and drop their support of the insurgnecy.

I have said many times in the past year that the political leaders elected in January suck and I couldn't wait for Allawi to come back to power, this is why. Allawi would have told the Arab League were to stick it.

The first rounds of a world war normally aren't recognized for what they are.

Nice to wake up to at least one statement of unvarnished truth. Thx.

And yes, this is just the start of the ultimate clash. With islam, there must be war and there can be only one winner. Either islam (real islam) comes to dominate the world...or it is defeated and expunged.

An Iraqi's thoughts on the Cairo conference can be found here:

http://iraqthemodel.blogspot.com/

"We heard a similar sort of talks prior to January elections and many parties held the slogan of ending “the occupation” but after the elected representatives sat to figure out what to do most of them found that asking the troops to leave would be in no one’s interest so they found themselves asking the UN to let the troops stay for another couple of years instead of asking them to leave.
Again, this issue is a technical one and speeches mean almost nothing and I’m positive that whoever is to be elected next month will realize the complexity of the situation especially when it comes to building Iraqi forces capable of preserving security."

I have a feeling that this is just a bunch of local Napoleons and NOT legally elected representatives from the government.

Telebani is running for office, and some others actually are terrorits. Don't forget the 'Scholars' are a faction there and old Mookie Sadr and all are part of that group trying to hammer out whatever that statement was.

This will get WAY overplayed and spun as some sort of American retreat.

The media can try and spin it as a retreat, but so long as it is an orderly withdrawl that results in a functioning Iraqi republic, history will remember it as an American victory.

The ultimate objective is to 'poison the well' that the terrorist emerge from. That 'well' is the Islamic fundamentalist state. A successful Iraqi republic, set in the heart of the dysfunctional Arab world, will be eat away at the core of medival Islam like acid. So, let's not fret too much about what the media thinks. They don't seem to realize that we can 'lose the battle' for Iraq, and still win the war.

When none of them can define killing American Troops as terrorists, then the basturds can have their shit hole country back...

Not all of it. We should legitimately purchase) keep a section on the Gulf large enough for a Naval station.

>Well then here's an example from the AP....

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1526656/posts

"Leaders of Iraq's sharply divided Shiites, Kurds and Sunnis on Monday for the first time called for a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S.-led forces in the country, even as the Bush administration continued to resist pressures for such a schedule."

My point is that there are already troop reductions in the planning and the media will spin and twist this particular story. It also helps the Democrat/MSM cause if people can say, "see they don't want us there". I understand your concern dropping the word, "terror" to be applied to Sunnis who carry out actions against our troops but let's not overreact here to this agreement which really isn't much of any agreement. There is an election that still has to take place here. There will be many face-saving compromises which will be spun as the MSM usually does. Watch for this story to be spun 900 different ways by the MSM.

Before some will go hysteric over this you must understand the following. In the Arab language it is very easy to twist and play with words so when they talk about the so called “resistance” in this communiqué it does not mean at all that they have legitimized the attacks against of our troops, the Iraqi forces, and other coalition troops. It was just a three words statement in 5 page long document that says the people have the right for resistance. There were much more statements in the communique that condemn terrorism and basically declare the insurgent groups as terrorists. In fact the important part of the communiqué states that the future Iraqi governments will put a schedule for the withdrawal of foreign troops in conjunction and with the conditions of the build up and “capability” of the Iraqi security forces to take over and establish peace and security in Iraq. This is exactly what President Bush has been saying for a long time, i.e. when the Iraqi forces stand up we will stand down.

The Prime Minister of Iraq was at the conference and he said that US troops should be able to leave by the end of next year. Very soon now, Iraq's security services will up to 75% capacity and by the end of the year, they will be fully trained up and capable of doing the job themselves, he said.

I think that is the US position as well.

I'm sure the terrorists will be fully taken out by that time as well.

The question remaining is what kind of permanent military footprint do we have in Iraq starting in 2007. A few good airbases, a few good army and marine bases would be about right.

I'm not so sure the left doesn't get it, so much as I am convinced they hate the right so rabidly they are willing to die killing us. America's own version of human bombs, so to speak.

I agree 100%. It's just like the early 1930's all over again. Iran is building up it's war machine with nuclear weapons and missiles that can carry them. The world meanwhile does nothing even though the Iranian Leader has called for the destruction of Israel. Back then, Europe and America looked the other way while Hitler made ready for world domination.
