I live south of Waco, and mismanagement in Dallas is legendary, as is the incompetence of mayor Laura Miller and the council. When the Dallas Cowboys started negotiations to move back to Dallas into Fair Park, I said "it's never gonna happen. Dallas will never get it's act together enough to put a decent proposal on the table. The Cowboys will end up in Arlington." Sure enough, Laura Miller (applauded by the communists at Texas Monthly) laid down the law to Jerry Jones, and they basically told him he'd be paying for renovation of the entire crime ridden Fair Park area, in exchange for which, they'd also let him renovate the Cotton Bowl.
Jones is moving to Arlington, which now houses the Texas Rangers and the original Six Flags.
Bolton is simply another example of what happens when liberals get control of cities.
I live a stone's throw from where the new Cowboys Stadium will stand, and I think it's pitiful that Dallas didn't work with Jones to put the Cowboys back in Fair Park. Roads and parking are already there, and what an opportunity to clean up that part of the city!
Now, with Texas/OU ready to pull out of Dallas, they're talking about spending a fortune to renovate the decrepit Cotton Bowl for a couple of games a year.
Stupid.
DALLAS - Shoppers appear to be abandoning Dallas for stores located in area suburbs, according to sales tax revenue. For the sixth month during the past 12 months, Dallas sales tax revenue failed to meet projections compared to the previous year. The city's portion of sales tax collected by retailers helps fund city services.
Economists said surrounding suburbs have succeeded in luring Dallas shoppers faster than Dallas can build new retail attractions.
"The competition among cities is not new," said Craig Depken, an economic professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. "If Dallas is now on the losing end of that, that may be a new development."
Dallas Mayor Laura Miller pointed to new developments such as expansion at North Park Mall, downtown rejuvenation and the Trinity River Project that could turn the tide during the coming years.
"We are working as hard as we can to turn this around and get more sales tax revenue for our city," she said.
I used to enjoy getting Texas Monthly, being a displaced Texan. It always had great stories and photography, and brought home the old feel of being in Texas to me. Then, it seems they changed editors a couple of years ago, and it turned into a liberal spewing rag seemingly overnight. I finally, sadly, eventually cancelled my subscription.
Liberal half-truthful diatribes wrapped around recipes and recommendations for meals that no real Texan would consider ever preparing.
