California is a big state with a lot of HS football teams. Teams like USC and UCLA don't have to go out of state to find studs as often.

Instate recruitment is life or death for teams like UW. Was why Rick Nuihesal was soo successful at UW most of the time. They guy is a hell of a recruiter and landed a lot of the top instate talent.

Even one bad year of recruiting instate talent at a school like UW can mean disaster for years.

Actually, Neuheisel wasn't all that successful at the UW. He won the Rose Bowl one year because QB Marcus Tuiasosopo won about 4 games in the last five minutes. Then mediocrity set in, 7-4, 6-5 etc. And his recruiting classes, despite fairly good rankings by the recruiting gurus, didn't pan out, either. This year was his last senior class, and the Huskies have been 1-10, 2-9 the past two years. And the last two years were terrible recruiting years, even according to the gurus.
