Just Give Up Already - Or just be Zotted
Posted on 11/20/2005 7:20:18 AM PST by dream police
The hope for a better world and better America is gone. Finished. Done for. I don't know when this happened, but it did. So vote if you must. Democrat, Republican -- it doesn't matter. Better to enjoy yourself. Immerse yourself in pop culture. Go see Saw 3. What' J-Lo up to these days? Does Green Day have a new album? Forget about eating healthy. You think you're going to live forever? Have that extra cheese all meat pizza. You know you want it. Drink to excess. Don't pay your debts. Invite the collection agent to take it out in the parking lot if he doesn't like. But whatever you do, don't waste your time working for a better world because it's not going to happen.

"It may be some comfort to reflect that the second century was marked, not by the end of the world, but by the prosperity of the age of the Antonines. Our society, too, confronts the alternatives of cataclysm or prosperity. Roman history is a reminder that the latter has its own perils, not less real because they are concealed. There is a pertinent comment of Gregory the Great on the apparent prosperity of the Roman world in the second century -- 'There was long life and health, material prosperity, growth of population, and the tranquility of daily peace, yet while the world was flourishing in itself, in their hearts it had withered away." -- Donald R. Dudley, The Civilization of Rome.

But whatever you do, don't waste your time working for a better world because it's not going to happen. HAH! That's what YOU think!
Who controls the British Crown?
Who keeps the Metric System down?
We do! We do!
Who leaves Altantis off the maps?
Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do! We do!
Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?
We do! We do!
Who robs cave fish of their sight?
Who rigs every Oscar night?
We do! We do!

Yeah, you should see it. We gave up on trying to make the world a better place on Friday, so that's when we went to see it. Today all we're going to do is watch football.
To: kstewskis
The Dems just do not understand that giving people the freedom to do what they want (buy an X-box) IS WHAT MAKES THE WORLD BETTER.
People do not need to have their hand held from womb to tomb. I sure don't.
If we all act in our own best interests, like the invisible hand, the world does become a better place.

And I thought I was depressed. Thanks for brightening my day, relatively peaking.

Actually, with your defeatist, juvenile approach you'll fit right in with a significant chunk of FReepers.
