Who would slink away after such a warm invitation?

A gutless charlatan.

Mea culpa.

I was talking baseball batting averages on another thread. Strike naturally meant out.

"This is for the schoolchildren of America," he said.

Heck, I'm sure a few phone calls to progressives like Hillary Clinton
and other leading lights of the Democratic Party should be able to
take care of the shortfall.

Surely the AAUP and all the teachers unions can find millions of dollars
to fund the display.
They always seem to have enough money to support at least
one political party with millions of dollars in cotributions.

The Museum was packed today for the opening of the exhibit. It'll be a roaring success. As for corporations hesitating to get involved, well, you can't blame them. For reasons that have nothing to do with science, Darwin is controversial in America. Where else would a major public figure warn a town about the reception their prayers might get from now on because dumping their schoolboard was apparently a slap in the face of the Lord?

This is hard to believe. Look at all the stores who have removed the word "Christmas" from their stores. Any one of them could be a sponsor of this exhibit.

How do I get on the science ping list mentioned on your Freeper home page?

But it seems more than a coincidence that they should do a major Darwin exhibit at this particular time.

Well yes. It's to give it time to tour the sticks before opening in London in 2009. That's the key year - 200 years after Darwin was born, 150 after publication of On the Origin of Species

They'll have Mapplethorpe type protests.

Blame the folks here who make it a religious issue, making it seem evolutionary theory or biology for that matter is anti-Christian.

The so-called advocates for science and biology are its worst enemies.

Indeed. When people around here say things like "And an atheistic theory it is with the ultimate purpose to kill God and, hence, Christianity, which it is to say Western culture and its people." and "This is about The ChiComs and by their own documents they have clearly adopted the tenets of darwinistic evolutionism as part of their plan to eradicate religion and ensure the victory of marxist atheism." and "Still, the implications are what they are; that is, if evolution is true then the Bible is not. So I disagree that Christianity and Darwinism are compatible." and "The current "mainstream" crop of evolutionists are anti-religion. They would have me forfeit my faith in a Creation by God, and instead substitute their faith in a mysterious, unproven, unobservable process by which one organism supposedly morphs into another. (Despite all the CONTRADICTORY scientific evidence, I should add.)" and "Sure a person can believe in God and in evolution. Obviously. They just can't also believe the Bible is true, not and be intellectually honest." and "According to evolution - All the world's a stage and life is just a metaphor for chemical acts – I don’t see gravity making this claim." (part of a desperate attempt to "prove" that the theory of evolution somehow has ethical implications and as such is incompatable with Christianity) and Has it ever occurred to you that since NONE of us was present to observe when "it" all began, all we have is conjecture? We are all operating by faith in some way. You choose to believe there is no Creator, therefore no meaning for life, no "higher power" to answer to at the end of your life." and Does evolution fit into my belief system? That depends. If we're talking about mutations within species, then of course. I have a Ragdoll breed of cat. She has characteristics that were developed over years of selective breeding that distinguish her from other breeds. Do I believe in transmutation of species, the central tenet of Darwinian Evolution that tries to explain a common lifeform that all life evolved from over millions of years? Then, no, I don't." and "BTW, Evolution and Creation are in direct contention with one another. They're incompatible." and "Creationists operate from a Biblical perspective, and Evolutionists operate from a Humanist perspective." and "Junk science people, evolutionists, prefer to believe that a God was not involved because they are atheists." and "They worship Charles Darwin, ergo they believe in him as their creator." and "Too bad the premise of an evolutionist is that God doesn't exist and if He does He is too stupid to create humans and all we see." and "In the beginning, evolution just happened for no reason no plan no design..... just POOF! there was the earth and life just evolved for no reason ..... LOL" and "My view of FR has changed after reading this thread. I never knew that conservative America was made up of so many people who are so desperate to deny God that they stoop to elaborate, unprovable, inimitable and riciculous theories." and "Evolutionists resist Creation, since it would presuppose God..." and "And, speaking of materialists, that is the atheist connection, since a fundamental, though illogical, first principle of evolution is naturalism. Naturalism denies the existence of anything besides matter and its motion. Naturalism (also known as materialism) is necessarily atheistic and is the connecting point between evolution and unbelief." and "Evolution theory exists because people don't want to believe they were made by a superior being to whom they are also responsible for their lives." and "According to the evolutionist there will be no final exam." and "The clincher here is this, if I'm correct in my belief in the book of Genesis, I'll be spending eternity in a field of clover with a cold drink right there whenever I reach for it. Meanwhile, you and your buddies will be stoking a furnace while Asmodeus, Judas Iscariot and Adolf Hitler take turns jabbing you in the glutei with a trident should you stop shoveling for a moment to wipe your brow." and "I generally distrust the judgment of evolutionists because they're atheists."...

Wait, those all came from creationists. Hmm. Looks like your premise is faulty.

Did you do extensive quote mining from the posts by the admitted athiests on these threads?

If you are not evenly sampling from the population, your conclusion need not follow.

My point was to demonstrate that there are a good number of people on the anti-science side who have turned this into a religious matter when the previous poster blamed it all on the evolution camp. If you want to grab some posts from atheists on FR who state that evolution is "anti-Christian" I'll be happy to look them over. The last person I asked for such infomation, dsc, balked at such a request because he apparently felt that his word should be unquestioned. Well, to be fair, he wasn't just referring to atheists on FR. He was referring to atheists in general. He refused to cite a single example to support his claim.

Actually a lot of medical research and astrophysics does depend on understanding that life and the Universe have evolved over a very long period of time.

51 per cent of Americans reject the theory of evolution, believing instead that God created humans in their present form. Another poll in August found that 38 per cent of Americans think that creationism should be taught in schools, instead of evolution.

If ignorance is bliss, we must have a very blissful nation.

If there was any actual proof for DARWINIAN EVOLUTION there would probably be more commercial support. True science does not support either case so why should businesses pick a side on the issue? Evolution theory defies nearly all the laws of physics, mathematics, and biochemistry. Religion and evolutionary theory both ask you to deny the actual laws of science. Both require a large element of blind faith but only one is called religion!

Ummm... In a word; Codswallop!
