ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf Saturday said devastating earthquake in his country could become a backdrop for improved relations with India.

The quake, which killed 74,000 Kashmir residents and left more than 3.5 million people homeless, could result in an agreement between the two nations on ownership of the disputed region, Musharraf said.

Musharraf made the plea for peace with India during a meeting of potential relief donors in Islamabad, the Press Trust of India reported.

"The earthquake has created a unique feeling of togetherness, of an urge to help each other within people of Kashmir on both sides of LoC and more than that within the people of India and Pakistan," he said. "Therefore, I sincerely and genuinely believe that the challenge of this earthquake can be converted into an opportunity of lifetime which was never available to India and Pakistan to improve relations."

Musharraf appealed to everyone involved in the Kashmir dispute as well as media in both countries to "together solve the Kashmir dispute once for all."

The only ways that I can see Pakistan being able to actually come to peace over Kashmir has to do with eliminating the terrorists and their madrassa recruiting grounds.

Perhaps the terrorists and their support organizations are suffeciently weakened or disrupted in Kashmier at least to where the people or army could further degrade the cycle of terror?

More PR from Mush. He must be up to something. They recently got a little bit of money in earthquake aid. Time for Mush and his boys to go on a little adventure.

Musharraf has his heart in the right place. But, he needs to work on the presentation. Not much can top 'Mr Gorbachev, tear down that wall!' It's in the character of the man or it isn't.
