A nationwide campaign to stop school children from eating fish made a stop in Pensacola today. People for the ethical treatment of animals held a demonstration in front of two Escambia County schools. They passed out trading cards that featured cartoon characters who are suffering from what they claim to be the effects of eating fish. PETA spokesperson Karin Robertson says eating fish is the most toxic thing we can do to ourselves.
Karin Robertson/PETA Spokesperson: "There's more chemicals in fish than any other product that is licensed and approved to be sold in a grocery store. We wouldn't be eating, uh feeding lead paint chips to our kids. We shouldn't be feeding fish to them either."
Bobby Kay/Protesting PETA: "So is the lettuce they're eating. The lettuce that they're eating is toxic they're sprayed with chemicals and these people just don't know it. Obiously they've eaten so much lettuce the toxicity has gone to their head and they can't think properly."
The PETA demostration inspired a protest at Brownsville Middle School. A local radio station and the Oyster Barn on Bayou Boulevard teamed up to give away free fish sandwiches to encourage people to eat fish.
Come on FNC....get a backbone!
