The tax increase would be on the wealthiest Californians - most of whom are liberal anyway. I say let em pay more. Its their own money and say what you like about Reiner, at least he's spending his own money on a cause he feels passionate about. He's literally putting it where his mouth is. Most libs talk about using government to effect change and Reiner is willing to go the extra mile to make it happen instead of just posturing. Again, he's no moderate like Gray Davis. He's a real 100% liberal. This illustrates how far Left the California Democrats have moved in the intervening decades.

Much to consider in your comment but I still have two fundamental problems.

First, with just conveniently taxing the rich to raise government revenue. If this works, a Rob Reiner clone will come up with another meritorious cause. So, I'm thinking a slippery slope here.

Second, making poor Californians more dependent on Government -- effectively creating public preschools.

And the next time a large recession moves these wealthy out of the top tax bracket, ala the dot-com bust? Do you really think that once such an expensive program gets established, it will ever be cut, or do you think that demand for funding it will continue to geometrically increase every year? How long before everyone down to $30,000 per year is "wealthy" enough to be taxed for this "free" yuppie daycare?
