Senators will have to choose between the two amendments. Liebeman is making nicey-nice talk, sensing that tonight is a turning point away from politicizing, and toward successful completion of mission. No premature withdrawal, etc. Lieberman is against the Levin version. Anyway ...
The language in S.AMND.2519 that Warner objects to is ...
(c) Reports to Congress on United States Policy and Military Operations in Iraq.--Not later than 30 [Warner wants 90 days here] days after the date of the enactment of this Act, and every three months thereafter until all United States combat brigades have redeployed from Iraq, the President shall submit to Congress an unclassified report on United States policy and military operations in Iraq. Each report shall include the following ...[deletia]
(7) A campaign plan with estimated dates for the phased redeployment of the United States Armed Forces from Iraq as each condition is met, with the understanding that unexpected contingencies may arise. [Warner would delete this final paragraph in its entirety]
They could reject both. They don't *have* to do anything. Be nice if they'd pass the authorization act, and leave the carping to separate bills or resolutions. You don't support the troops by delaying authorization to buy their beans and bullets, and issue their paychecks.
Geez if these Dems and RINOS had been in Congress in 1942, we'd all be speaking German and/or Japanese. (East and West of the Rockies respectively I'd imagine.)
