Straw man fallacy.

Both of you, document one poster here who thinks that the war should never end or retract your remarks about such.

It's that PAC of 14 with a few added - AND THEIR PAC IS BEING SUPPORTED BY GEORGE SOROS.

I cannot believe any repub is so stupid as to take money from that guy. But I know McCain and Specter already do. And now that "gang of 14" are a PAC. Good grief - talk about sinking your own ship! DAMN RINOS!

I wish I could agree with you. The Republican version, also, seems to call for an unclassified "report" (duplicate to Al-Queda for planning purposes) every X number of days.

Also, once they "compromise" ....... I honestly believe that the Republicans have lost their collective minds! Maybe we can urge them not to do anything on this bill until after the Y\E break - maybe going back to their home States will restore some SANITY.

They are supposed to vote on both of the amendments tomorrow...

I may not be able to watch the Senate all day..so I have asked the usual ones on that thread to keep track for me.

I want the list of all Republicans...and which IF ANY amendment they vote on..

I would prefer that the Republicans vote NO on both Warner's and Levins...but, if one has to pass...it better be Warners.

They're more scared of the growing number of voters who think the continued, endless stream of US deaths in Iraq has to come to an end

Remember to add the 3,000+ US deaths in USA on 9/11.

Rush talked about it last Thursday or Friday. I have no idea what his source is.

Neither amendment calls for a timetable...but the Levin amendment has many more "hoops" for the Bush Administration to jump through...and calls for a lot of PUBLIC announcements of troop strength and goals to be set... IOW...the dems want to run the war from the Senate and they want to be able to tell the POTUS AND CIC, when to jump and how high.

Yes, it's about the politicization of the war.

Yes, that's right. The war should never end. That's a real conservative position, and I'm sure that it's one the Senate Republicans favor.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Its not ending the war that's important, its WINNING the war that's important. The fact that a time table is discussed, indicates that people aren't fixed on the goal. It becomes obvious to all once the war is won, that the troops come home. Before victory is achieved withdrawal is not even part of the discussion.

President Bush said this would happen in Nov. of'01. He said the memories would fade and some would want to let it go. He said the WOT would continue as long as he was President or there was Victory. I believed and understood him then and I believe him now.

I honestly believe that the Republicans have lost their collective minds!

On that much we agree.
They are adrift for the time being.
When W regains his footing, they will fall into line.
I have renewed optimism since Friday's retaliation.

If these "Senate Republicans" don't have the guts to see this through, then I don't care if they do lose. We might as well have lying, cowardly Democrats in place of the counterfeit version.

And, as Churchill, let me apologize for the idiots who either have the name (Ward) or take on the username (ChurchillBuff) but have no understanding of what our family name means.

I believe that Churchill was the greatest man of the 20th centruy and he stood like a bulldog despite the odds or the parliament. We should stand against the terrorists like he did against his enemeies at home and abroad.

I hope you are right. I felt the same way, but am afraid that our weak Republican Senators will cause too much damage unless this bill is delayed until after the Y\E break.

Kinda weird that someone who chose the name you carry should be the one hollering Surrender.

To leave Iraq before it is capable of standing on its own would invite the Jihadis to take over and make it Al Quedaville ... then, we'd just have to go back there and do it again.

Conservatives and those who support the War in Iraq are indeed for regime change in those other corners of the world you claim we ignore ... but there are many ways to accomplish that goal in those places ... armed conflict is a resort of the last measure.

We can wait out the Chinese and Chavez and others ... with Saddam, waiting was a loser's game so we needed to jump while we had the chance.

Seems to me that you're looking at things, and the War, without much reference to the history that brought us to where we are now.

Clinton followed the polls, was afraid to confront anyone except Branch Davidians and talk-show hosts, and thus invited Al Queda to hit us really hard by his continued refusal to respond to their escalating attacks on the U.S. during his two terms.

A retreat to the Clinton doctrine will mean future death and future war.

The Jihadis won't back down until they're dead.

But, if we back down, it's us who'll be dying.

How would you define "the job done"? Give me specifics. What has to happen in order for the "job to be done"?
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Iraq must have a duly elected democratic government. We will be in Iraq for the next 50 years militarily to insure western interests and to stabilize that region. to do otherwise would be to give in to the muslim extremists and weaken our strategic position in the cauldron that is the middle east.
