Just because we can't do everything, it doesn't follow that we shouldn't do anything. Nor does it mean that we shouldn't consider our strategic interests when we choose where to act.
Two things that are in the Middle East that are not in Zimbabwe or Cuba are 1) oil 2)terrorist regimes who not only want to destroy Western Civ, but are actively working to do so.

Tucker Carlson in interviewing Stephen Hayes about the dems vs. Bush on the Iraq War...

Tucker started out the interview saying that over 20 Republicans will sign on to the "date certain" pull out date for getting our troops out of Iraq....

Should we believe anything this guy is saying???

I'd laugh but that's about right. Unfortunately you take away the /sarc and that's about the mindset of the more ardent Republicans

"How would you define "the job done"?"

When the last terrorist surrenders or is killed! Until that time, every person in the world, except Muslims, is considered an enemy by the jihadist.

"Call your senator and tell them to vote no on both amendments"

Boxer and Fienstein for me. Would be as worthless an act as hitting my own hand with a hammer.

Very funny! Today I was reading almost word for word what you've been saying while I was lurking on a few Socialist/Communist sites.

Sadly .. yes

As I stated earlier .. I want the names of every pubbie that sign onto either amendment

Politicians should not be telling the military how to do their job

Have we not learned anything from Vietnam?

Utopia? What about something else than the utopia (nowhere) that still exists in Brent Scowcroft's aging brain? One of the most cynical things I have ever witnesses is the decision by the Bush 41 administration to betray the Shiites and Kurds in the name of "stability." This after calling Saddam a "hitler."They greatly underestimated Saddam Hussein, who avoided that coup that the administration expected.

I'm with you. I am absolutely DISGUSTED with those spineless Republican Senators. Based on their actions in the Senate, they're nothing but a bunch of eunuchs. They are jeopordizing the security of our country, for the sake of getting re-elected. I will be sure to call my 2 Republican Senators (RINO Specter and possibly-RINO Santorum) when I get my thoughts together and can make a coherent phone call.

"what emboldened Bin Laden in the first place was the Russians giving up and retreating from Afghanistan?"

Excellent point, anything less than a strong victory to the finish with a solid Iraqi government in place with its own adequate security will be a catastrophe and will greatly embolden terrorist recruiting to say "See, just as we said, these Americans do not have the will and determination to defeat our jihad!" Whatever someone thinks of the original decision to go into Iraq, it would be NUTSO to weaken now, to give any signs at all that we will hightail it out of there before the job is done. Al Qaeda recruiters will be citing the Russians leaving Afghanistan, Clinton leaving Somalia, etc. etc. and to add in any retreat at all from Iraq would have disatrous effects for many years to come.

Personally, as long as we're killing Al Qaeda I don't see any reason to leave.

And publicly announcing an exit plan anytime prior to complete pacification is ludicrous.

Neither amendment calls for a timetable...but the Levin amendment has many more "hoops" for the Bush Administration to jump through...and calls for a lot of PUBLIC announcements of troop strength and goals to be set...

IOW...the dems want to run the war from the Senate and they want to be able to tell the POTUS AND CIC, when to jump and how high.
