So, in order to defend freedom, you would need to create a worldwide police state with the ability to suppress ANY idea--religious or otherwise--that it dislikes, "backed up with the severest consequences." (The same tools that could be used to suppress Islam could also be used, for example, to suppress YOUR religion if the powers that be took a disliking to it.)

That's on a par with "fighting for peace" and "fornicating for chastity."

It's not a matter of like or dislike.
It is a matter of survival.

What you suggest, minus the defense of freedom, is exactly the goal of islam.

2. On a more serious note...do we REALLY want to run things in the way that Spain did in 1400?

It wasn't as bad as popularly assumed, especially considering the fact that they had just spent 500 years driving the Mohammedans out of Spain.

The best policy for containing Mohammedanism is to stop Mohammedan immigration, introduce democratic institutions to Mohammedan lands (this is actually antithetical to Mohammedanism), and to promote institutional change in Mohammedan lands that will improve their living standards, allowing them private access to non-Mohammedan religious reading material.

Mohammedans are notoriously difficult to convert, probably because of their general ignorance and the militancy of their diabolical religion.

Generally, I don't go to Catholics for the straight skinny on (a) pederastic priests, (b) the Spanish Inquisition, or (c) any of the Catholic Church's other dirty laundry.
