Orange County Leads Area In Concealed Weapons Licenses

RESOURCE: Florida's Concealed Weapon Program
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Next time you're out in a crowded place, take a look around. Chances are someone's carrying a handgun and you wouldn't know. Channel 9's Steve Barrett has uncovered just how common concealed weapons are in the places we all go.
It might be in a purse, or a pocket, a car, or a briefcase, and you have no way of knowing. In Central Florida, about one in 40 adults has a permit to pack hidden heat...
... More than 55,000 Central Floridians are licensed to carry a concealed weapon. Orange County has the most, followed by Brevard and Volusia. Orange County has 14,942; Brevard County is next with 11,527; Volusia County has 10,631; Lake County follows with 6,401; Seminole County has 6,330; Osceola County has 3,701; and Flagler County has 1,864.
That worries many people, especially now that Florida law allows the use of deadly force if someone feels their life or property is being threatened. Yet, statistics show violent crime actually decreased with Florida's right to conceal, depending on who you believe, anywhere from seven percent to 40 percent...
...Gun proponents say, while not knowing who's carrying may make some uneasy, it also makes criminals think twice.
Carrying a concealed weapon is considered a right in Florida. The license costs about $100. If you're 21, can shoot and have a clean record, chances are you qualify.

There's gotta be a lawsuit in here somewhere. What's the point in publishing the names unless you intend to harass someone? It's not NEWS.
I've often thought about that idea!

If carrying a concealed weapon is a right (presuming the individual is not a criminal), why are they required to pay $100 for that right, and why do they need a license?
Ping
Can you imagine the outcry about "harrassing and invading the pricacy of people exercising a 'Constitutional right'"?
Well, . . .
OK. Here ya go news media. I'm Keith and I'm packin' too. In fact, it's a S&W .40. Go ahead. Tell who ever you want.
Nice!
Do you know where this picture was taken?
Here they are:

Possible? I'd say "likely."
I'm sick of you pro-violence people trying to push your extreme agenda on everyone by quoting facts. You're simply disingenuous by playing the truth card. Don;t you even care about the children? (sob!)
:)
I believe Gulfport, Mississippi.
WFTV is full of baloney. What possible good can come of publishing such a list?
My God, local TV news is such a disater area. The writing stinks, the news judgement is dreadful, the weather report has been stretched into its own little saga, and sports reportage has now morphed into a 10-minute segment of screaming and shouting.
I no longer watch the stuff.
In a related incident in Texas.
We have a mother/daughter and a criminal breaking in. What the jerk did not know until it was too late.
GRANDMA WAS PACKIN!

Even has the 911 tape - great to listen too.
I tried to hand those signs out for free to the mommies who were marching in the so-called, "Million Mom March" in Tampa/St Pete Florida a few years ago, but they refused to take them and put them up in their front windows as I suggested. Ding! Ding! LOL
congrats to the 55,000. they will now be even more safe from criminals.
And, the state of Florida stopped tracking offenses of people who have CCWs.It was so low as to be non existant.
Moral of the story: If ALL people behaved like CCW holders, there would not be a need for CCWs.
"Maybe they should post a list of people who DON'T own a gun."
Well, at least reporters who don't, anyway.
Maybe I am dense, but I don't see in the article or the immediate links within the article where they actually published names of concealed weapons holders. The title of the thread is "Central Florida TV station publishes names of concealed weapons license holders" and the title of the actual article is "Orange County Leads Area In Concealed Weapons Licenses" but I don't see where the names (other than a couple of gun store owners) is published. I am not a big fan of WFTV, but I watched the video and it is not particularly anti-gun or pro-gun.
But I am off topic a bit. The title is a non-sequitur from the content. I don't see where it "publishes names of concealed weapon holders"
