The issue isn't the dolls, rather the philanthropic/co-marketing arrangement So because Microsoft provides same-sex benefits and promotes the same to other companies, I should protest by not buying or using anything sold by Microsoft? So I should quite my job because my employer mandates the use of MS Word and Excel and is, indirectly, supporting gay rights with which I disagree with?

It's not about adults, or even about teenagers. The target market for American Girls dolls is under 12. If Microsoft was offering benefits to anyone, of whatever gender, involved in sex with girls under 12, I'd say not only boycott them, but also shoot them. We call this pedophilia.

If Microsoft offered Word with a built in donation to Planned Parenthood, which is what they're doing here, I'd buy the regular version. And let them know my displeasure. Obviously there are more doll choices than operating systems.

It's your call. Have you called your employer's attention to these things? Are these products and services (and your job) equivalent to your well-being as a series of $100 dolls plus accessories is to mine? Do you have alternatives, if you choose to spend you money according to your principles?

Or you could continue working there and make snide comments towards those who'se convictions lead them to boycotting a company that gains $$$$ in profits and they turn around and sponsor an organization that is promoting immoral and dangerous ideas to young girls. Seems like a no brainer to me. But they don't call this a free country for nothing.

You make yours, and everyone else gets to make theirs. Isn't that the way it works in America?

Hey, its a free country. You are free to protest and object, or to go with the flow. There's always Linux and OpenOffice, both free.
You are also free to buy a single share of Microsoft or any other company whose policies you object to (or support) and introduce a Shareholder's Resolution that will be presented to all shareholder's for a vote.
You are also free to start your own company and have policies that are 100% in line with your beliefs.
