Face it guys, Mehlman wouldn't have put up a fight anyways. Maybe it's good that Howie withdrew.
The RNC hasn't had a decent chairman since Lee Atwater.

Story I heard was LA got hooked on cigarettes and after a while decided to quit. He quit cold turkey except for Fridays when he would smoke enough to maintain a strong yen throughout the rest of the week. This kept his discipline sharp. A key skill for the type A that he was. LA was the last. You're right, none since. What we need is ten of him.. immediately. Friggin' new tone.

Mehlman is a excellent tactician, but Atwater could give me chills he was so good. Barber was good too.
I can't think of a single name right now for a RNC chair or a WH press spokesman, well maybe Dan Senor (sp?).
Is that his name?

"The RNC hasn't had a decent chairman since Lee Atwater."
Correction:
"The RNC hasn't had a decent chairman since Haley Barbour."
Haley was the best chair ever, helped get the GOP Congress in '94.

He wouldn't have had to put up a fight...just appear sane. That would do enough damage to Dean.
