If you know what you are allergic to, the best option is to avoid those products. I realize that you may come into contact with some products which contain precursors to the allergens which you are sensitive to, but that is an everyday hazard you must cope with. Your best bet is to keep the Benadryl/Epi pen handy.
OTOH, does it have anything to do with where the produce or meat originated? I think not. I have partaken of foods in every country in Europe (East and West), Central and South Asia, and the Philippines. I have eaten what the locals eat, without suffering any malady.
If consumers are willing to pay extra for a label that is honestly telling them that the product that they are purchasing meets certain standards then why should it bother anyone? The organic and whole foods is a rapidly growing market because people are realizing that if they want to have good health they have to eat real unadulterated foods.
I don't mind eating foods from other countries as long as they are honestly labeled. There are some countries that just don't have the same standards that we do here for raising their animals and produce. I'm willing to pay extra for it because since I made the switch to a whole foods diet my health has improved drastically and I have lost over 100 pounds without really trying.
