LONDON (Reuters) - Former Beatle Paul McCartney is to broadcast live into space from a U.S. concert to two astronauts circling the globe.
He will play "Good Day Sunshine" and one of his latest songs, "English Tea," to NASA astronaut Bill McArthur and Russian cosmonaut Valery Tokarev who are on an international space station 220 miles above the earth.
McCartney, who will be singing into space Saturday from Anaheim, California via NASA television, got the idea when he discovered that the crew of the spaceship Discovery were treated to a burst of "Good Day Sunshine" in August as a wake-up call from Mission Control.
"I was extremely proud to find out that one of my songs was played for the crew of Discovery this summer. In our concert we hope to repay the favor," he said in a statement.
Here by the way is an interesting article that sums up things fairly well, and might actually deserve its own thread of exchanged insults here.
Don't forget Eminem and Madonna...
jello wrestling over which lyrics are worse..."Honey" or "Muskrat Love"....
I now realize why God created me as a sentient being....
;)
Have you all heard "The Annoying Music Show" on Chicago NPR?
Sometimes you have to filter out the usual NPR dreck...but most of the music is deliciously annoying.
I'll try to get you a good link...the last audio link I found honored "Workers of the World" day on May 1st, which I don't think would go over well with our crowd...
I'll keep searching...it's really a funny show.
I kinda like that one.
WRONG!!!
Man, that article is sure to stir things up! :-)
John Denver, is that you?!
He made the mistake like so many pop/rock stars and flew in a small plane except he was the pilot. Augered in. He lived in Asspen.
So the guy's a PETA nut and getting a little long in the tooth (unlike most of his contemporaries, who are taking dirt baths).
But to deny the man as a music icon most likely without peer (living, at least) is ridiculous.
It's like saying, "what's the big deal with Babe Ruth and Ted Williams? We've got Paul Konerko!!!" (with all apologies to the Konerko family...I'm sure he's real good).
In the interest of fairness, Listen The Snow is Falling is not a bad song, as long as someone else is performing it.
I think Sting nominated himself as the 20th century Mozart.
LOL!
for all it`s worth by doing it over and over and over and over and over...
To sold out concerts with ticket prices of around $250 for decent seats. Over and over again.
And your favourite 'paper of record' (NYT) declared the Artist Formerly Known as Prince and Now Again Known as Prince as this or last century's Mozart. Roger Kimball referred to this piece of nonsense in one of his essays about the decline of Western culture.
LOL. Although, Mozart was kind of "pop" in his day. It was in Mozart that the Classical era found its greatest composer, right before giving way to Beethoven and the Romantic era.
Okay, I guess I'll thank you for the MP3 of Yoko. ;)
Just kidding--I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier, just got a new job and I didn't see your post before just now.
And after my breakfast is properly digested tomorrow, I will listen to the MP3. ;)
Many thanks, FreedomCalls. :)
Yes, actually, I have. Too funny! :)
Maybe FReepers need to make a "Worst songs EVER" compilation CD and sell it to pay for FR.
Hey, it could make a lot of money for FR. Although there would be copyright issues, unfortunately.
And I doubt that liberal musicians would want to support FR, LOL!
Never mind... ;)
