Neat stuff.
I was surprised to learn that the US and Soviets actually landed probes on Venus, and that one such lander (Soviet, I think) took some photos before melting and burning up.

Did not know we had a lander on Venus. I thought the photos we see were from and orbiting satellite of some sorts... Guess the soviets, as well as NASA know now to land closer to the poles I reckon...

I knew that the Russkies landed probes there, but I'd never heard of us having done so. Are you certain of this?
