FREMONT, Neb. -- Court documents indicate that a Fremont teacher who was fired last week had started a relationship with a freshman girl.
Nathan Wilhelm, a seventh-grade social sciences teacher at Archbishop Bergan Catholic High School, has been fired after being arrested on charges of molesting a student. KETV NewsWatch 7 acquired court documents that indicate Wilhelm developed a relationship with a ninth-grade female student. The document said they began e-mailing each other last month and the content became sexual in nature.
Investigators also said Wilhelm began sending the 14-year-old sexually explicit text messages to her cell phone. Then, on Oct. 29, the court record said Wilhelm inappropriately touched and tried to kiss the girl at the school.
Wilhelm was arrested a few days later and charged with felony sexual assault of a child.
Nathan J. Wilhelm, 27, of Fremont has been charged with sexual assault of a child.
In an affidavit filed Thursday in Dodge County Court, Detective Joyce Henke of the Fremont Police Department wrote that the student, a 14-year-old girl, said Wilhelm first began e-mailing her in October. The contents of the computer-generated e-mails from Wilhelm became sexual in nature, Henke wrote in the document, which also stated Wilhelm sent text-messages of sexually graphic fantasies to the girl via her cell phone.
Wilhelm, a 2000 graduate of Midland Lutheran College, began working at Bergan in 2001.
I must be getting very old. He looks way younger than 27 to me.
I know what you mean. lol!
When you look at your doctor and think are you kidding me (you aren't old enough to be a doctor), you are getting old! lol!
I hope this schmuck enjoys Nebraska's finest gladiator academy for at least 15 years. "
Hold on now. He didn't rape her and there was no intercourse. He sent her racy love notes, which were apparently unrequited, and then tried to kiss her.
I expect that all of the above has happened to most adult American males. Perhaps not to a teenage girl, but it has happened.
The incident received national media coverage and the fellow's name was all over it. His teaching career is ruined forever. I think that a suspended 12 month sentence, with a $5,000 fine and a warning from the judge that another incident will immediately put him in the slammer, is enough punishment.
Okay, then, 15 months.
You're getting old. So am I, but a man has to know his limitations, and I do.
