Kearney and O'Doherty worked for the Baltimore Archdiocese at the same time. From the Catholic Review:

Archdiocesan communications director returns to City Hall

By Stefani Manowski

Staff correspondent

Stephen J. Kearney resigned as communications director for the Archdiocese of Baltimore effective Oct. 10.

Mr. Kearney, who took up the archdiocesan post in July 2002, will return to working for Baltimore City Mayor Martin J. O’Malley as director of policy and communications. He served as the mayor’s communications director prior to accepting the position at the archdiocese.

--Snip--

"It’s the truth of what we know," said Mr. Kearney regarding the listing of names. "What we have tried to do in the past year and a half is to bring about some healing, and hopefully, in some measure, we have succeeded."

"Past year and a half"=October 10, 2003. The article quoting O'Doherty as a spokesman was from May 2003.

Does FR have an award for investigative journalism?

I nominate you for all of your fabulous info on this thread.

WBAL-TV led with this story last night at 11:00. They had Ryan O'Doherty on air dancing away from answering the big question.

Funny to watch a "spokesman" silenced by a reporter.
