after being shot with hunting rifles fitted with lead pellets
"hunting rifles fitted with lead pellets." Hmmmm. NPR (yeah, I know, another reliable news source) this morning reported that the poor misunderstood yoot were shooting pellet guns. Which means prob. .177 caliber, 12 to 15 ft.lbs. A minor injury unless the target is real unlucky.

Good morning.
'A minor injury unless the target is real unlucky."
A modern pre-charged air rifle, which I believe are legal in France, can shoot it's projectile at more than a thousand feet per second.
I might be wrong about the legality of owning one in France, but I know how lethal they can be.
