The 'surrender monkey' tag is fair in a general sense, but the French do have some elite forces. France is a weird country; while many people think of it as primarily psudeo-Latin (ie emotional), there is a large percentage of the population that is Germanic/Nordic (Normans[Normandy]=Norsemen=Vikings).
I remember in Paris back in '97, during the era of street bombings, and the troops patrolling some of the subway stations could have passed for SS stormtroopers: shaved blond heads, tall, well built.
France could take the Muzzies pretty quickly (as of today) if they really wanted to. It will be interesting to see if the far right becomes ascendent.

Did anyone catch the History Channel, talking about the Vikings and how they invaded Europe/France. Well the king of France at the time (500 AD or something I cant remember exactly) but instead of fighting these Vikings they paid them off with tons and tons of gold and silver asking them to never come back. Well the plan back-fired, and when word got back to the rest of the Vikings that there was riches beyond belief, the attacks only increased rather than decrease. So this appeasement mentality goes way back in history
