Its going to take a lot more than a "silent march" if the French hope to regain their country.

I haven't read much about these protests (just started with this thread and will go back to crosslinks afterwards) but can you answer this question (it may have already been posted)?

Is there a specific meaning to torching cars? The few newsphotos I've seen so far seem to be burned out shells of cars. Are they destroying any other type of property?

Please pardon me if this has already been covered; I'm just now jumping into the Paris/France Protest threads.

They should just give the order to shoot rioters on sight. Sure, it would inflame things for a night or two, but people would get the idea. That would at least buy the government a little bit of time to think up a longer-term solution.

The cars appear to be easy hit and run targets.
They ride their bicycles up to them, throw the Molotov in and pedal off.
There also have been nursery schools, bus storage areas and warehouses targeted.
