The impression I have from reading these latest reports is that the violence has entered a new phase, and is no longer confined to "the zones," but is spreading to the middle-class suburbs of Paris, as emboldened gangs of Islamic thugs seek to make these streets their own, while the government cowers, paralyzed. The French have long romanticized civil insurrection, viewing it as quintessentially French; ironically perhaps, it is the one lesson of French history that these "unassimilated" hordes have taken to heart.
