Why doesn't the writer name the riots and who was rioting? I don't remember any.

French unionists and communists (Am I being redundant?) have put on some good shows, with blockades and burning tires. The nation was effectively shut down a few times. To the French workers it was a good time for a vacation from their crushing work schedules.
