This nation would benefit from doing some remedial reading in history.
I haven't been on the threads much the past few days, but I haven't heard of any of the talk shows covering the MD4BUSH story. Sure hope it gets out into the public conciousness, but I wouldn't count on it. The Has Been Media has been too busy trying to convince the Public that Rove is going to be indicted soon! Heaven forbid reality should intrude on their little world!
It's been awhile since I've looked into it, but MTBE did what it was expected to do, just with unintended consequences as it poisoned the ground and got into the ground water. Nor can it be removed, as I understand it. Horrible stuff. It also didn't help the engine, from what some mechanics tell me.
MTBE was the liberal solution that totally backfired and is now another problem they created.

Here's a thought. The objective of the oil companies is to maximise value for the stockholders. They could care less how much I pay for gas.
My objective is to pay as little as possible for gas. If I can do that by complaining, putting on pressure, getting Congress to put on pressure, increasing tax burden for windfall profits (though I agree that will never work), I'm fully within MY rights, whether it's based on a feeling, even if it's wrong.
And you have every right to try to talk me out of it so we're all exercising our rights around here.

I was just listening to Rush play the Clinton soundbite where he said he and a couple of friends decided they didn't have to sit on the front seat of the bus anymore when they heard what Rosa Parks had done.
I'll bet if that big lie had been true, those "friends" would have been little girls, and he would have used it as an excuse to get them into the back seat.

Not a feeling, it's a fact. Increasing the price on a product that is already in stock, is gouging. You don't have to get it, it exists. It doesn't need to be retrieved, processed, delivered, it's there.
BTW, since my pension fund and 401K plan both have investments in Oil stocks, I am "Big Oil"
Good for you. Prosperity is a good thing. Are you a direct stockholder who is able to attend stockholder meetings and actually vote on company policy?
Companies are collections of investors, not some big evil club rich white guys belong to. They all ready pay HUGH taxes on their profits. The emotional wish to "punish" the oil companies for being Capitalist Enterprises is nonsense. How about this. How about we make the Campaign Funds of the Pols taxable? How about we impose a "Windfall profit" on the profits Holliweird Actors make? Pro Athletes? Sorry but there ARE other options. Gas is NOT a necessity.
My point is not emotional, it's observation. I don't seek to punish them. Corporations can't be punished, they aren't people.
Gas is not a necessity. You can alter your behavior. Drive a fuel efficient car, use other forms of transport. Move closer to your work. The idea that Gas is a "necessity" and thus you are entitled to it is NOT an argument Conservatives should be making. I am a Conservative because I want the Govt Limited as much as possible, NOT because I want the Govt to be limited ONLY in the things I DON'T want it to do
I know it's not a necessity. I know it's not an entitlement. I also don't expect to "take one for the team". I adjusted my driving habits, I cut my driving by 90%.
Next I expect to read something about the Emergency Rooms of local hospitals being over-utilized and in "trouble" due to lack of payment. Guess where they will get payment for the "emergency" help they are giving?
The really scary part about the Emergency Rooms, is you may have the same thing happen in Florida that has happened in California. We have Emergency Rooms closing at an alarming rate, because hospitals can't afford to keep them running since the Illegals use them as their healthcare, and no one reimburses the hospitals.
