Its not very often that a nation provides the money to buy the bullets and guns which will be aimed at its own head - but the U.S.A. has an alarming habit of doing so.

Let's see....
1. China has nukes - wants to take over the world
2. Russia has nukes - used to want to take over the world
3. N. Korea has nukes (see #1)
4. Iran will have nukes - wants Islam to take over the world

All 4 are allied together - sounds like a disfunctional family. It will be interesting to see how all this plays out in the future, not that I want to.

Maybe. China is definitely not our friends, but its also important to note that they are not cracking down as hard on christianity as they were (which isn't to say they're making nice with christians. They aren't). Furthermore, they have a lot to lose by going to war. Germany as able to import the raw materials they needed to fight the war overland for the most part, making it naval blockade of only limited utility. China cannot do this. They must control the sea in order for their economy, and by extension, their war machine to function. And they can't. Their navy barely qualifies as a bad joke. India's navy could whup China's navy. Enforce a blockade around their ports and shipping lanes with fast attack submarines, and their economy would strangle itself to death within a matter of weeks. If they want to go nuclear, then when we're done, Chinese civilization won't exist.

Keep in mind that half the German economy was directed towards war production in the years leading up to WWII.

China's claim of about 30 billion represents roughtly 2% of thier GDP. Even if the 90 billion was true, it would represent 6% of their GDP.

China knows that they are prospering under Pax Americana and won't challenge it. In fact, they can see for themselves the cost of maintaining global security (i.e., 2000+ casualties in Iraq). They will leave the policing of the world to the Americans and continue to focus their energies on expanding trade.

I personally believe there will come a day when Americans will insist that China send their military to help the US in military hotspots. Remember 1980's Japan? There was a feeling that Japan was benefiting from American security but not contributing to it. Americans will someday feel that way about China.
