"you're just mad that post #6 (and all the other crap he put onto this thread) were pulled."

That is absurd. What is there for me to get mad about?

"They are not getting promoted and advanced at a rate commensurate with their weight in the talent pool."

If there were no affirmative action, then one would be able to compare apples to apples, but then if there were no affirmative action, there would be very few apples available for comparison.

"In a survey of more than 1,600 minority professionals, Dr. Hewlett and Princeton professor Cornel West found that sterling credentials can be overshadowed by personal and cultural traits."

I suppose it depends on whether or not those credentials were earned or were the result of affirmative action.

MikeinIraq said, "you're just mad that post #6 (and all the other crap he put onto this thread) were pulled."

To which I replied, "That is absurd. What is there for me to get mad about?"

Then MikeinIraq said, "I don't know.
The Post wasn't funny.
"

So why would you assert that I am mad? There must be a reason. How can you not know why you would make such an assertion?

And what would you call your abuse? .... Justified and allowable?

I've seen scores of threads just like this one.... You don't want a conversation about race.. you want to preach... Most adults don't appreciate being preached to and called names.

Freepers as a whole probably post based on person experiences and misgivings the same as the article's author. If you don't want to learn from their experiences don't read these threads. Just because someone has a different opinion and doesn't lay back and cower to your preaching, you ping all your buddies and hit abuse at the same time. Have you ever had your abusive comments pulled? Have any of your ping buddies ever pressed abuse on you? Somehow I doubt it.

We're not fooled. The blame for the degradation of the comments is not one sided. These threads are as predictable as your next comment.

Of course they had to get into college, law school, and get hired without the benefit of affirmative action, so they actually had to earn their positions.

Wow, that's harsh. Why do you just assume she received affirmative action?

A person cannot control his or her race or sex. Therefore, discriminating against a person on the basis of race or sex is wrong. A person can, however, generally control his mannerisms, attire, grooming, etc. It is thus entirely right and proper to discriminate against people who conduct themselves poorly when they should be able to do better (certain medical conditions may interfere with grooming etc. and may constitute an exception to this general principle).

I didn't. I assumed that the white guys did not receive affirmative action.

"tread lightly saying stuff like that"

Is there something wrong with pointing out the fact that white guys do not get affirmative action?

Is 'white' the only color of success?

The writer of this sort of rhetorical question (which presumes a "yes" answer),
probably never had to compete with classmates that included Africans that had
survived the English education system and Asians that had a banzai approach
to educational achievement.

Oh course, the writer could be a graduate from a journalism school.
That would also explain this sort of "question".

Cornel West is a wacko, but a likable wacko (at least to me).

Nothing I have ever seen from him would lead me to believe he is not credible.

Just because someone doesn't agree with us doesn't make them in-credible when it comes to facts.

For the record, the only person who can get you banned from Free Republic is yourself. Some personal responsibility is in order. Gaijin is to blame for for his own banishment, not MikeinIraq.

Not from my perspective. I was being somewhat facetious considering the thread's earlier FReeper banishment.

On your original point - anecdotally...

I have a very intellectually gifted cousin. He graduated from HS @ 16 with all kinds of honors and had his Bachelor's degree with honors by around 19. He decided to go to law school so he took the LSAT and did well. Despite all his work and accomplishments for two years he tried to get into a law school in Texas. He was never successful and had to go out of state.

On the flip side I have another cousin, actually wife of a cousin. She had good grades in HS & college but no where near as good as my other cousin. Her LSAT score was also considerably lower than his. Yet she was admitted to UofH Law, a school that had rejected my other cousin.

Subsequently I was talking with her about how her first semester was progressing and she mentioned how she had learned from various minority students that their grades and LSAT scores had been even lower than hers. She was rather surprised at the apparent disparity between qualifications. I didn't bother telling her about my other cousin who was now schooling out of state.

"Some personal responsibility is in order."

I certainly would no disagree.

"For the record, the only person who can get you banned from Free Republic is yourself."

I would mostly agree, although I witnessed some disturbing exchanges they seemed to indicate that some of us are more equal than others.

White guys DO get affirmative action.I know for I am a great example.
New Orleans,1972.The schools were under court order to integrate their faculties.White teachers were needed at some of the previous all black schools.I was white.I had a credential. And I was hired-by a black Personnel Director at that!
Both of us were a bit embarrased at the circumstances!
