Dodi was Egyptian. Not that it makes much difference. But the biggest problem was that his father, Mohammed al Fayed is a crook.
The sons are Christians, nothing would have changed that.
As for Charles, he's doing this because he's a prat, nothing more.
I'm fairly confident the British Establishment is ready to step in again.

Thanks for the specifics...thing is under Muslim law, any children a woman had from a previous marriage becomes automatic property of the Muslim father...and they will automatically be made Muslim, regardless of what the woman wants. This is what I understand from the many horror stories I have read of American women who married a Muslim and found out too late just what that meant. I had the idea that it could have been an explosive situation for the Royal Family.
And because of you, I know the British people as a whole are MUCH smarter than Charles. Thank you :D
