The Prince of Wales will try to persuade George W Bush and Americans of the merits of Islam this week because he thinks the United States has been too intolerant of the religion since September 11.
The Prince, who leaves on Tuesday for an eight-day tour of the US, has voiced private concerns over America's "confrontational" approach to Muslim countries and its failure to appreciate Islam's strengths.
The Prince raised his concerns when he met senior Muslims in London in November 2001. The gathering took place just two months after the attacks on New York and Washington. "I find the language and rhetoric coming from America too confrontational," the Prince said, according to one leader at the meeting.
It is understood that Prince Charles did not - and does not - believe that the actions of 19 hijackers should tarnish the reputation of hundreds of millions of law-abiding Muslims around the world.
Khalid Mahmood, the Labour MP for Birmingham Perry Bar, was also at the meeting at St James's Palace. "His criticism of America was a general one of the Americans not having the appreciation we have for Islam and its culture," he said.
Mr Mahmood and other Muslims present stressed that Prince Charles did not go so far as to criticise the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001. More recently, he has been careful not to express his views on Iraq.
The Prince also spoke of his sympathy for America after the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of almost 3,000 people. He said he wanted to promote better relations between the different religions of the world.

JOHN QUINCY ADAMS ON ISLAM:
"In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar [i.e. Muhammad], the Egyptian combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth. Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law the doctrine of one omnipotent God: he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope o immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND JUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE...Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. The war is yet flagrant...While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth and good will towards men.",,

It made me sick to hear Bush's effusive (and many said blasphemic) praise for Islam and "Allah" at that WH convocation last week. How can someone profess a faith in Jesus Christ, and then praise the holiness of Allah??? Whatever his position on abortion, the one nice thing about a President Giuliani is that he would tell the Muslims to go f**k themselves. Unlike Bush, Rudy would never hold the hand of the Saudi Prince like some kind of Dhimmi faggot, nor would he ever be caught dead praising Allah, or inviting Palestinian terrorists to the WH. Bush really dropped the ball after 9/11. Could you imagine FDR after Pearl Harbor going to a Shinto temple and praising the "peaceful Japanese"? What a patheticly weak culture we have become thanks to the 60's traitors. And Bush just doesn't get it.
"Wait until the bio attacks begin in England. He'll be singing a different tune."
No, he'll be explaining what the English did to deserve it.
I'm not all that sure that your average Muslim is gonna be all that happy having an adulterous bonehead who wanted to be reincarnated as his mistress's feminine protection pleading their case.
I totally agree with what you posted . This country better wise up fast .
He's not such a bad guy, but he's still a ninny. The U.K. needs to retire its royalty and figure out what Ireland got right and France didn't.
His mum seems cordial enough as grumpy, sheltered old ladies go, but monarchies are just hopelessly outdated. Life just isn't nasty, brutish, and short enough anymore to justify (or excuse) that kind of political system.
I sent a letter to the editor. If they publish it, I'll post a link here. I was nice, but I'm not sure if disenting views are allowed in liberal rags.
Its called, "An Open Letter to Prince Charles: Go Home!"
My basic point was islam needs tolerance, not the US. But we will see if they dare to publish it.
There are a number of comments on this thread that would make great letters. Write the Telegraph. They would LOVE a good freeping!
One more reason we should be thanking Samuel Adams and Patrick Henry and Richard Henry Lee and Joseph Warren and George Washington and Benjamin Franklin and...
I don't hold Charles against the English. In my book, he's not really an Englishman.
Well he is mostly German in heritage.
Regards, Ivan
Ivan, sometimes I think I love you. :)
"He said he wanted to promote better relations between the different religions of the world."
That's so sweet of PC I just wanna hug him...that is just before I projectile barf in his face...not after.
You are not going to get flamed by me! You are quite right. I am usually amused by those who find Europe becoming Eurabia, while here at home we are also on our way to becoming Americstan. The only difference between us and Europeans is that we still have the means to defend ourselves. Europeans banned the weapons that may have saved them.
A post worth repeating. Of course to be accurate, one must point out that Bush Jr. didn't just hold hands with "Prince" Abdullah, he also applied his lips, the lips of the male President of the United States, to Abdllah's cheek.
And that's about the third time Bush has kissed a man in public. For what it's worth. Not that there's anything wrong with it.
