Prince Charles to plead Islam's cause to Bush
Telegraph ^ | October 29, 2005 | Andrew Alderson

Posted on 10/29/2005 3:32:33 PM PDT by West Coast Conservative

The Prince of Wales will try to persuade George W Bush and Americans of the merits of Islam this week because he thinks the United States has been too intolerant of the religion since September 11.

The Prince, who leaves on Tuesday for an eight-day tour of the US, has voiced private concerns over America's "confrontational" approach to Muslim countries and its failure to appreciate Islam's strengths.

The Prince raised his concerns when he met senior Muslims in London in November 2001. The gathering took place just two months after the attacks on New York and Washington. "I find the language and rhetoric coming from America too confrontational," the Prince said, according to one leader at the meeting.

It is understood that Prince Charles did not - and does not - believe that the actions of 19 hijackers should tarnish the reputation of hundreds of millions of law-abiding Muslims around the world.

Khalid Mahmood, the Labour MP for Birmingham Perry Bar, was also at the meeting at St James's Palace. "His criticism of America was a general one of the Americans not having the appreciation we have for Islam and its culture," he said.

Mr Mahmood and other Muslims present stressed that Prince Charles did not go so far as to criticise the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001. More recently, he has been careful not to express his views on Iraq.

The Prince also spoke of his sympathy for America after the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of almost 3,000 people. He said he wanted to promote better relations between the different religions of the world.

Wait until the bio attacks begin in England. He'll be singing a different tune.

No he won't. These kind never learn.

It's funny: Muslims kill people all around the world and our reaction (even Bush's) is to bend over backward to them.

But when the Unabomber was discovered to be a mathematician, did mathematicians get the same kid glove treatment? Noooooooooo.

Thanks for the heads-up! I'd like to think of him as the UK's "crazy aunt in the attic" but apparently he's headed to our shores.... why do you have to let him out of the attic?? :^)

It's OK, we'll just send him on a spiritual retreat with some of our own favorites here like Bill Clinton, Algore, Hillary, et al and they can all prattle on to each other about the "religion of peace" having nothing to do with mass murder in NYC, Bali, London, Madrid, etc.

That sounds like he has a problem with American foreign policy. Maybe he should send a note to Mr. Straw.

I'm stunned reading this. I've typed about 4 responses and deleted them. I don't know what to say. And ask my husband. That hardly EVER happens. LOL

We are free men over here. Unless of coarse charles forgot about the past history of no taxation without representation. ;) He should shut up and go pretend to be important elsewhere. The US plays power politics now not faux ones to a fake leader. Im glad the brits have a good PM.

I have always had the impression that Charles is something of a mental lightweight; a nitwit, shall we say. These latest remarks of his prove the point.

I can't imagine that he would be acceptable to the vast majority of British as their King. It would probably be harmful to the monarchy if the succession ev er went to him. I just don't know how it can avoid him unless he preceeds the Queen.

Man, I sometimes wonder about Prince Charlie. It seems like he delves into these politically correct stuff while his nation burns. All I can say to him is if Islam has it's way, his sisters and mom will have to wear burkhas and he and his sons will be kept as slaves if they are lucky to live. So in addition, he has to "grow a pair" and realize that Islam is harmful to any Western nation that does not see it as such.

Isn't it the case that Elizabeth can name her successor in her will? I'd read that somewhere.

Oh, and as others have said, you're a great FR asset.

This photo is too cute by half. Is he playing with a full deck? It appears there has been too much intermarriage among the royals and this is the result.

Charles is dumb enough to have said "There is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet." five times once.

And to think I once had a bit of sympathy for this dope because of his
homely countenance.

I guess the royal inbreeding does have real effects...
