This was the God of fertility. It was one of the blasphemies that ancient Israel fell into and was condemned for!
Isn't interesting how, through abortion today, it is usually the firstborn that is still sacrificed to the god of this world (Satan)? The firstborn as well as all the "first-fruits" have always belonged to the true God and Satan tries to steal this as well.
