WASHINGTON — Vice President Dick Cheney's chief aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby (search) was indicted Friday in relation to the investigation of a leak of a CIA operative's name to reporters two years ago. ... The 22-page indictment charges Libby with two felony counts for making false statements to mislead the grand jury. He is also charged with obstruction of justice and perjury. In total, five counts were included in the indictment. ... The indictment was approved by a majority of the 18-member grand jury. While their identities are sealed, the majority of jurors were black and the majority were women, including the foreperson.

In other words, in this political prosecution, Libby has been indicted by Democrats.
Is it any wonder Republicans tiptoe so carefully in Washington DC? Maybe we should move the US Capitol to Casper Wyoming.
GWB should pardon Libby now and stop this nonsense. GWB has enough on his plate requiring stellar performance to worry about the Plame case.

Pardoning Libby would effectively end his term.
That would probably be the worst thing he could do, and Democrats could probably ride into power quite easily in 2006.

So what. Did Libby lie to the FBI and Grand Jury or not when he said he was "surprised" to hear that Wilson's wife worked at the CIA?
A pardon is not an exoneration-- it's a form of forgiveness. We don't want that; we want this to go to trial and have the judge throw out the charges for lack of evidence.
Agree, if done in the right way. Bush should thank Fitzgerald for his zealousness and say that without a crime and without a real threat to National Security, this circus must be brought to an end.
I would favor Caspar, or Bismarck, or Davenport. It really doesn't need to be where it is, and frankly, the real estate is too expensive there. I also don't see why the Supreme Court needs to be anywhere near the White House or the Congress, or why the Smithsonian and National Art Gallery need to be with the other branches of government. Spread them out across the country and take some of the power out of DC.
He probably can't pardon him or conservatives would suffer too much in '06 and '08.

The context of this is false. It suggests in the story that Wilson was sent to investigate "reports" (the ones that turned out false) If I'm not mistaken, the Italian forgeries came AFTER Wilson's trip. Fox news is falling down on the job and not getting the facts of Wilson's trip correct...
He sounded like a very nervous man. A man afraid of what might be coming down.
If I were LIbby I would try to raise enough money to put a ton of investigators on Fitzgerald. The man should have sounded confidant and assured. He sounded like a man with a gun to his head.
Some people get mike fright. But it rarely lasts more than a few seconds... Especially a man who has been a prosecuting attorney.
Fitzgerald sounded scared and nervous... The question is why?
I don't think he can until Libby or whoever is convicted and sentenced. Not sure though. Funny, whenever some black crack dealer is on trial we can't have an all white jury even if it happened in a white majority town because that "would be unfair and racist". So here we have white guys on trial, and we have a jury that is very disproportionatley black and feminine. WTF??? I wonder how much these jurors are being paid to guarantee favorable results?

Unbelievable. I guess if Fitzgerald had only been able to indict some poor schlub who worked in the White House mailroom, then he would suddenly be the one who secretly ran the whole show.
This is just the continuing saga to use the courts and the threat of force as the final authority to settle political disputes to the balance of power; if Libby refuses to answer questions about his perfectly legal behavior then the use of force looms to take him into custody , which in effect is just short of military coo attempt; so are we are quickly becoming banana republic?
I also noticed how bad FitzGerald sounded. I've been hoping for awhile now that somebody was trying to get dirt on him; and believe me I'm sure FitzGerald is not squeeky clean. I think and hope that the Democrats are really going to be dragged through the ringer after this is all over. I can't wait.
