"People have the impression that teens and unmarried mothers are synonymous," said Stephanie Ventura of the National Center for Health Statistics.
But last year teens accounted for just 24 percent of unwed births, down from 50 percent in 1970, she commented.
The increases in unmarried births have been among women in their 20s, she said, particularly those 25 to 29.

The "milk," such as it is, may no longer be a determining factor. Guys can now get milk in many different varieties several times a month, if they choose.
That leaves the real question: what does the woman bring to the table, aside from access to milk?

Actually, Scandinavian countries have some of the highest birth rates in Western Europe.
Why is it that we as conservatives insist on accepting only a state-approved arrangement as as marriage? Government endorsal will eventually corrupt any institution.
I'm kinda curious -- aside from demanding marriage, what other demands should women make on their prospective spouses?

The more this country turns away from Biblical standards, the worse things will get. Children need to be taught the basic principles of partnership and marriage. Love before marriage, sex after marriage. Get married, stay married. 24/7 they're being bombarded with constant negativity, dicorve, celebrity scandals, and single man/single woman whoredom.
It needs to stop. If you have kids, kill your TV and teach them the right way of maintaining relationships. The cycle has to stop somewhere.

Marriage contracts derived first in religions, only to be endorsed later by "states."

BTW - I've been in a very committed relationship for a long time now and trust me, I'm not worried about how much easier its going to be to pick up and leave me just because we aren't married. But thanks for the encouraging words.

Liberals have promoted the destruction of the family because it leads to expanded government power. People without family to turn to will become dependent on the state. Many of these unwed mothers need governmental assistance, and even the fashionable "lifestyle" unwed moms who have careers still turn to the state for daycare assistance and things such as that. The kids born into these situations are raised to think of the government as their provider instead of their father. It creates exponential growth in government, as these kids will more likely need counseling, more likely turn to crime, more likely produce more out of wedlock kids themselves, etc.
It's just evil how liberals deliberately cause these problems so the state can be expanded.

That covers a lot of ground, for instance, I assume it means being a "good provider," "good father," and participanting member of the community. All of which are fine.
But for the record, when women begin "demanding" the end result is usually a guy walking quickly for the door.
The point of the article however is that more children are born illegitimately. So, an increase of 72 would not have a great impact on the numbers. It means more people in general are following the same suit as blacks, having illegitimate kids. Especially hispanics. The only people that are not having kids are whites. What it shows me is the old belief that hispanics marry seems to be falling apart.

The Scandinavian countries are even further down this road than we are, and look how dependent they are on their massive Socialist bureaucracies and how readily they put up with confiscatory taxation. No sense of a past or a future, those countries now just exist for the moment.
