WASHINGTON - Nearly 1.5 million babies, a record, were born to unmarried women in the United States last year, the government reported Friday. And it isn't just teenagers any more. ADVERTISEMENT [0]
"People have the impression that teens and unmarried mothers are synonymous," said Stephanie Ventura of the National Center for Health Statistics.
But last year teens accounted for just 24 percent of unwed births, down from 50 percent in 1970, she commented.
The increases in unmarried births have been among women in their 20s, she said, particularly those 25 to 29.

I do volunteer work sometimes with a program at my church that provides afterschool care and homework help to poor children free of charge. The class I work with has 25 children. Only four come from a pair of married parents, and less than half still have their father in their life.

since when did we start congratulating people for doing what they're supposed to do?Since you can walk into an abortion center at the drop of a hat and murder a baby...that's when. The 1.5 million didn't.

"Until the Government stops paying for most of these bastards nothing will change."
How did you come to that conclusion?

"Many would argue that what has changed is not unwed women becoming pregnant, that has always happened, but the fact that men will not marry them if they do become pregnant. Years ago it was done as a sense of duty and honor. Men sorely lack that honor today."
I think the more relevant point would be: is really a basis for the relationship that can benefit the marriage? Not worry about the child growing up without a mother or a father.

You apparently cannot count. You have made several ad hominem comments. You also appear not to be willing to address the real issue here which is that a society which is not willing to condemn out of wedlock births as being immoral and both rewards and condones such behavior is a sick society indeed. You, madam (yes, madam), are little more than an individual who is unable to live by her marriage vows -- I know, you intend to blame your ex-husband -- and who sees nothing wrong with being an out of wedlock mother. You apparently have given little thought to what your daughter will conclude when she is 12 or 13. I have known -- and my wife and I have tried to help -- numerous women in your position. We have reluctantly had to admit that most -- you may be the exception, though you have given me no reason to suspect you are -- find it more convenient to have children out of wedlock because of the "rewards" society bestows upon them. Perhaps there is more to the biblical admonition as to how we should deal with unwed mothers than our post-Modernist society is willing to admit. I wish you well, but the fact that you have taken such umbrage at what can only be described as honest comments about the situation suggests you are much more sensitive about being, in the words of Jay Severin, "little more than a b****** factory", than you are willing to admit.

A woman can't be a slut by herself.Your grasp of the obvious is truly amazing! However, if a women isn't a slut, she will say, "No!", and keep her knees together.
To: apackof2
The women in those situations got what they deserve. Its not just the women , its the kids.
What about the teachers who have to teach those kind of children in school. Do you have ANY idea what that is like?

Your double standard is truly telling about your character...or lack thereof.
By your reasoning, if a man isn't a slut, he'll keep his britches zipped.
You apparently forget that for every woman slut, there is her partner male slut. Takes two to tango ya know.

You apparently forget that for every woman slut, there is her partner male slut. Takes two to tango ya know. What double standard? You are assuming a lot there, Bubba. I also condemn men who are unwed fathering children out of wedlock as well as men who are married cheating and fathering children out of wedlock as well as women who are married conceiving children out of wedlock by other men. That seems to be to be a rather solid single standard.
You, Beleza, seem rather too swift to assume facts not in evidence. I would suggest you take a logic course before you accuse people of believing something you have no way of knowing what they believe -- or are you one of those psychics -- or are they now called Mediums (aghhk, Media? or is it Larges or Extralargasses) who can read minds at 2,000 miles?

What do you mean by THOSE kind of kids?Did I stutter when I wrote? Or, "Can you read?" Better yet, "Are you stuck on stupid?" Try teaching children that are products of illicit sex and have no father. Most are very difficult to deal with in the classroom. No, I'm not negotiable to seeing it your way.

You don't think there might be other factors involved here aside from the type of sex (illicit) that created the kids?
To: MeneMeneTekelUpharsin
Besides being unbelievable rude, I have no idea what you mean by "seeing it my way"
You have no idea what "by way" is, obviously or you have wouldn't write such a ludricious post

Yes, of course. It's just that the large majority of problematic children I run into come from these types of relationships. The father doesn't want them and the mother doesn't either. Murdering them through abortion is not the answer either. The solution is to take them away from the joy-seeking parent and put them up for adoption while they are still little, bitty babies.

Careful there, you'd advocating intervention by local/state agencies to take kids away from parents for being "joy seeking." This is usually the last resort, undertaken if the kid is in immediate danger.
To: Lunkhead_01
Logic smogic...1.5 million unmarried women did not abort their babies because they were single...where are the 1.5 million men who got them pregnant?
The women chose to give life rather than take it.
Your name is quiet fitting. Be off.
