IN parts its hard to fathom whether Libby is being charged with lying to reporters. He's not. He is being charged with lying to investigators. Lying to reporters is legal ;-)
BTW, did anyone ask him whether he spoke to cheney about Wilson? No allegation he denied that conversation.
The indictment recites that as a background fact.
- June 11 or 12, Under Secretary of State orally advised LIBBY Wilson's wife worked in the CIA & State Dept personnel were saying Wilson't wife was involved in planning the trip
- June 11 - LIBBY spoke with senior officer of the CIA to ask about the origin & circumstances of Wilson't trip, and was advised by the officer that Wilson't wife worked for the CIA and was believed responsible for sending Wilson on the trip
- June 12, LIBBY was advise by VPOTUS that Wilson't wife worked at teh CIA in the Counterproliferation Division. LIBBY understood that VPOTUS had learned this info from the CIA
In October and November of 2003, Libby told the investigators that he got all of this information FIRST from reporters, in discussions from June 23 (Miller) and into mid-July.
