Libby should have said from the start. "I think I made a mistake in revealing Plame's name i was not thinking when i revealed that information." "My intent was to show the incorrect conclusions of Mr. Wilson but in the course of the conversation i inadvertently outed Ms. Plame." His big mistake was in trying to cover it up and he did not do a good job of doing it. I hope he gets off because the whole affair is total BS.

and her employment status was classified".

Her JOB was classified; the fact that she worked at the CIA was not.

And "classified" and "covert" are NOT the same thing.

You seem to forget that Sam Waksal is in jail.

The Stewart case was totally different.

The thing that disturbs me most is that Sandy Burglar got away with a slap on the wrist for something REALLY serious. We don't know where the stolen documents are. They were classified and for all we know they were given or sold to a foreign agent.

I have read and heard many times that Plames employment with the CIA was "common knowledge". Apparently, Fitz didn't agree. I also heard that Joe Wilson had exposed her employment earlier. Was any of this true or not?

Also, did you notice how pissed some of the reporters sounded when Fitz said he had no plans to produce a final report? Even though this has been explained at least 100 times on Free Republic, and I'm sure elsewhere, these idiots couldn't believe what he was saying, and they were not happy.

The question was and still is this --- the OFFICIAL STATUS of Valerie Plame.

COVERT OR NOT ?

If Covert, then yes, this case should have been prosecuted. I think the fact that this case WAS PROSECUTED shows that she indeed still held the covert status.

And as I keep asking. Her identity was at the very least 'classified'. Is it okay with you for government officials to leak classified info to the press when it suits their purpose? Do you want every staffer to have that privilege?

Some of the evidence cited against him look like notes taken by interviewers, not direct trascriptions of what he said.

I agree. But the essential point is merely the difference between hearing/learing it first from the CIA or other independent resaerch, and hearing it first from a reporter or reporters. He told the GJ he heard it first from reporters.

Nevermind the detail diffs in the stories - Miller, Cooper and Russert had "the ssame" sort of recollection on that point - See the differences between paragraphs 32 and 33.

It just looks like Libby lied to the investigators. The truth would have done fine.

false statment and perjury charge???

Funny...I thought after the Lewinsky investigation, it was acceptable to lie to a Federal Grand Jury.

www.conservative-spirit.org (I just updated my page. Why is Bill Clinton walking around?). Sounds like entrapment to me. They had a mullet net and he got caught in it.

No, she was not covert - She was in a classified position (which is different) - However the fact seems clear this case should not have been prosecuted -- However, once prosecuted Mr. Libby seems to have foolishly tried to spin to the GJ (when he didn't need to at all!).

Covert agents can cycle in and out of covert status. They do take breaks for family & personal reasons...especially from overseas assignments. While they are on hiatus they work at the CIA offices or elsewhere. During that time their status is classified so that they can return to covert status when needed.

So it's okay with you if a top level administration official discloses classified information to the press?

Not to condone it, but that happens all the time. Bill Gertz has made a career out of publishing classified information leaked to him.

Neither paragraph says what you allege it to say, viz. that "Libby told the investigators that he got all of this information FIRST from reporters".

Not in those words, no. But that is the gravamen of the indictment, once you boil it down.

Look at the difference between paragraphs 32 and 33.

Sandy Burglar's pants got a pass. Democrats can do anything. It took 22 months for them to even figure out what to charge Libby with.

What about malicious intent or malice of forethought? I thought intent had to be proven.

MSNBC reports that Libby "threw sand in the grand jury's face". Sounds like a solid case to me, built on sand.

I'm well aware of this (and why I posted there is a difference between "classified" and "covert") - However Mrs. Plame was never intending NOR was the CIA planning to use her as a covert agent in the future.

Pretty tough trail to cover up. I wonder what he was thinking. No need admit "outing." But he didn't need to say that he heard it first from reporters.

He may have a really good defense, on facts not in the indictment.

Mark Levin on Hannity radio today. "The prosecutor talked a lot today about a crime today which never was charged. They have been reaching for low lying fruit."

media-govt complex. This is entrapment and I think we need a separation of media and state. Forget about church and state. Media and state is defiling this nation.
