As I posted earlier on this thread, Lewis Libby IS a criminal defense lawyer, and a very good one. Marc Rich didn't hire him for nothing. He probably thought (a) I am not lying, so I have nothing to worry about, and (b)I know how these things work, I don't need to spend 50 grand on a lawyer to tell me what I already know.
Remember, witnesses to a grand jury are not allowed to have their attorney in the room with them when they testify. The most a lawyer could have done for Libby was to rehearse his testimony beforehand; they would have had no way of knowing who else had testified or what they had said. When Libby was confronted with Russert's and Cooper's testimony, he had no choice but to stick to his story and hope for the best.
I concur that he really didn't think he was lying.
I also KNOW that a lawyer who has his own self for a client is a fool.
Libby of all people, should have known better.
Now, he has to fight this all the way, which will be imminently more expensive.
