If Libby needlessly lied during the investigation, he must have had reason to cover his own ass for something. Not sure what that was.

I just finished reading the charges as outlined on THE SMOKING GUN (link provided within this thread).

The charges center around the fact that Libby was saying that when he talked about Wilson's wife, he always attributed it to a fact learned from other reporters. In fact, Libby was advised by multiple administration sources (not Cheyeny)that Wilson's wife worked for the CIA and was involved in sending Joe Wilson to Niger.

Libby told investigators that he did not know if the story about Wilson's wife was true since it was coming from reporters. In fact, he did know since it came from Administration people and from personnel within the CIA.

I just read the charges and it sounds like Libby did not want to become the confirming source for these reporters because he already knew Plame worked at the CIA-he would have walked right into the trap of outing a CIA agent. The thing I'm not understanding is what is the evidence with the conversations with Russert and Cooper? Are those conversations on tape or are there emails?
