I'd raise the minimum wage to $0.

Wow if Walmart feels that strong about the minimum wage, then no one in Walmart should be paid minimum wage... I have a funny feeling that is not the case.

"Our customers(employees) simply don't have the money to buy basic necessities between pay checks."

Give me a friggin' break!
Is this rich or what! ROFLMAO

This coming from an employer whose hourly employees apply for food stamps so they can afford to buy groceries where they work.

This is all about what Wal-Mart wants to have happen to it's competition. If Wal-Mart wants to raise the minimum wage that they are willing to pay, there is nothing you or I can do to stop them.

Well, let us go further and require that places like WalMart provide free medical insurance and the prevailing area's average union wages to all of it employees. Would WalMart agree?
All WalMart wants is more money to be in the hands of its customers, so they can spend more more in WalMart stores. As far as any discussions about treating their own WalMart employees better, well, that is out of bounds.

I can no longer have sympathy for Wal-Mart if they conspire to hurt the poorest of the poor like this.

Raising the minimum wage hurts the poorest of the poor as it prices the lowest wage earners out of the market, especially poor black teenagers.

Hey, that reminds me, I'm running low on useless chinese crap, gotta make sure to stop by Wal-Mart on the way home. We just got a brand-new Wal-Mart Supercenter: it has about 60% more useless chinese crap than the old Wal-Mart they tore down.

I have no problem with that as long as Wal-Mart will ante up on the supply side for their suppliers whose costs will soar.

Walmart can be good citizens and lead the way... just like Henry Ford did in the early 20th century.

What a joke. The minimum wage has nothing to do with Wal-Mart or any other business. I work at a Wal-Mart Super Store where we have a McDonald's and the starting pay there is $6.65 an hour. No one really pays minimum wage any more in a tight labor market and if McDonald's is paying $6.65 who is still working for minimum wages other than maybe a waitress in a coffee shop who is also making unreported tips.

Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott said he's urging Congress to consider raising the minimum wage so that Wal-Mart customers don't have to struggle paycheck to paycheck.

UHHHHH - Dude! You can pay them whatever you like!

Lee Scott is capitulating to the left-wing nutcases that want to take Wal-Mart down. This is an obvious ploy that will do nothing for workers because Wal-Mart will shrug and raise its prices in proportion to a minimum-wage hike.

Lee Scott is running the company into the ground by appeasing the leftists who aren't going to shop or support Wal-Mart anyway. Sam Walton is spinning in his grave.

Why not $20.00 and hour? When is enough enough. What about giving eveyone a house on the beach. Do not go down this road. The Free Market will handle it or we will wind up a third world country.
