Oh, brother. Where did you get that one? Are you referring to the drag outfit he wore ONE TIME for a silly NY political event that featured costumes and skits? Maybe you think Milton Berle was a cross dresser, too. And he doesn't have a "gay lover." He has friends who are gay. If you live in NYC, you are going to work with - and eventually - befriend gay people.
