Many adults in the United States believe Republican Rudy Giuliani should launch a White House bid, according to a poll by the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. 54 per cent of respondents would like the former New York City major to run for president in 2008.
Republican Arizona senator John McCain is second on the list of prospective candidates with 52 per cent, followed by Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton with 48 per cent, and former North Carolina senator and 2004 Democratic vice-presidential nominee John Edwards with 47 per cent.
Less than 40 per cent of respondents support bids by Massachusetts senator and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, and U.S. state secretary Condoleezza Rice.
Giuliani garnered national and international attention in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The former New York City mayor currently heads Giuliani Partners, LLCa consulting firm.
In an Oct. 5 speech to business leaders, Giuliani opened the door for a possible White House bid, saying, "I think Ill return to politics."

He Can win in the Blue States. But will have a hard time in the primaries in the red states.
Sen. and former governor, George Allen looks to be like the man for 2008.
George Allen '08
What an ignorant statement. Look at the voting record. McCain is not the same as Hillary. He is much more to the right and things would not be the same under both. McCain talks like a RINO around the media but when it comes time to vote, he is undeniably right of center.
No, he's telling the truth. It doesn't make a difference for him. That's unfortunately true for a lot of "conservatives" around here. For them, the only thing that matters is whether or not someone is pro-life. They'd vote communist as long as they thought abortion would be illegal.
What line? If Rudy comes out in opposition of abortion, you wouldn't vote for him?
I actually agree with you. If Rudy runs on the same RINO-moderate milquetoast Rockefeller Republicanism that he ran on as mayor, then he wouldn't get past the Iowa caucauses.
You may not have that choice. If thats the case, McCain is better than Hillary, thats all im saying. I hope i never have to vote for McCain but i will certainly vote for him if it keeps Hillary from getting elected.
I know there's a sucker born every minute, but if you think I'd listen to someone like Rudy or Romney say, gee, I've been a liberal for years, but I really think abortion is bad, vote for me -- I mean, how pathetically gullible would you have to be to be taken in by something like that?
Let the moderates think what they like. The GOP party platform is pro-life. Should that change and/or should a pro-abortion liberal get the nomination for prez, the GOP is history.
But Rudy will get make up some of that ground because he can bring in woman voters that agree with republicans on crime, taxes, defenese, ect... but do not vote for pro life republicans.
Sanford and Graham are building a base for McCain in South Carolina.
Condi does not think Roe vs. Wade should be overturn, but supports bans on PBA, Parent's Notifaction, ect.............
I'm not so sure many on this board would agree. When your main form of entertainment is ranting about the horrible state of the country, the terminally disgruntled are happiest when our party is not in power.
FreeRepublic's glory day was when Clinton was president. The disgruntled "True ConservativesTM " haven't been really happy since. :~D
Thats why you should start a thread to let FR vet him.
Yeah im starting to realize that. One thing i dont understand, why dont those who support Condi get attacked by the anti-abortion crowd? She is a pro-choice libertarian but you dont hear these people blowing up when her name is mentioned like they do when you say McCain.
I agree with your line of thought. Rudy is better than Hillary any day. If the people that are against Rudy don't turn out. Guess who the next president is.
I wish once and for all we could get abortion to the states and be done with it. I am sick of it being the be all and end all on both sides.
Of course, there are many who will not rest even then.
