This is a completely different situation than 93, or 'the perfect storm' for that matter. It is a pretty rare event, but I doubt many will be worse off after it passes. If it was January, it would just be a big snow storm.. I would like the tropical connection though. ;-)
I must admit, it all looks pretty cool on satellite this afternoon:

Reporting from Sarasota.
I'll ditto Howlin. Many thanks. My daughter has a txt msg. phone that I would love to access from my computer (since I'm on it all day).
Me too! It's a balmy 47 degrees up here - warm enough so I could open a couple of the windows for fresh air this afternoon. lol!
I was amazed by this satellite photo!

You forgot the best part: you can actually TYPE the message......LOL.
No word since #562.
I'm praying that it's just a power outage keeping him offline.
Too true! I'm going off to sign her up to MSN right now!!
5pm advisory is out. Wind speed up to 120mph.
Thanks so much for the link.
I found the report with "Significant outages were reported in Kendall, Miami Gardens, Coral Gables, Hialeah and North Miami Beach, according to officials at the county's emergency operations center."
Damn good thing this is going to stay off the coast.
Unbelievable.
LOL!!!
Have you heard anything about the conditions on Longboat?
Glad you are back online, and no worse for the experience. Thanks for checking in.
Yeah, this storm is getting hit with shear that should be starting to rip it apart. Instead, it's deepening and looks like a big fat donut on the sat photos.
One of the FOX news guys was on Longboat- minor damage here and there, it's fine.
Like many not directly affected, I've been lurking for most of this "horror-cane" season.
But now that the thread is slowing down, a couple of questions:
Does Wilma look like she's headed for a European visit?
I haven't seen a Wilma check-in thread. Who is still unaccounted for? Laz, for one, has been quiet since before 7 this morning.
Power and cable back. Remind me not to power down the UPS to save battery life since it will not turn back on if it doesn't have AC present. Oh well, it wouldn't matter since the cable and phone were out. All is well at casa NVA. I hope the rest of you made out as well. FRegards, Non.
Yep- we are all well here too- glad you're back up and running. Can you believe Wilma is back to a cat 3? Amazing.
I LOVE this cooler weather! We'll all sleep WELL tonight!
