Any new construction built to code should withstand 120 mph hurricane winds.

It's my aunt's termite rotted old home I'm worried about holding up.

Other than for mobile homes actually the government doesn't WANT people to evacuate for winds; the purpose of evacs is to get people out of potential storm surge areas.

Tis true....they actually showed a good size alligator swimmming in the street...

...not a stretch really....with all the canals, and bayous...

..shoot, we have alligators pop up in our pond often....big ones too.

And we sit smack dab in the middle of a busy residential neighborhood.

Now reporting temps in the 50s in Tampa area. Just spoke to my dad in Bradenton, he says mid 60s there.

Folks who just lost power are getting a nicer kind of hurricane experience. When they whack you in August, it's in the 90s as soon as the storm goes away, and you don't have air conditioning. Today, the problem for the real Floridians will be that it falls into the 50s and some of us won't have HEAT! That's a new post-hurricane complaint!

Reporting from Clermont in Lake county, about due west of Orlando. Windy, horizontal rain, but no signs of significant damage. Garbage can fell over, but contents seem to be intact.

Glad tall kitchen bags - hurricane tough.

Well obviously it was the SUV's fault. Oh wait - it was a CNN SUV? Fault does not apply.

Second window compromised, something large is banging against the north side of the house.

Water coming in the house.

Fence is gone, trees are down, one more shutter loose, I may call sanctuary (go to the laundry room) for the kids if the next shutter goes.

Eye just minutes away according to radio.

Kicking hard now, something large just crashed outside.
