Susan wants to sell books. If she were confronted with the truth, that would mean her friend is a rapist and her heroine Hillary is a rape enabler who never spoke out about what her husband did. That wouldn't sell well. It might be worse than the helmeted candidate in the tank.

Sure, but I think an even bigger motive for Estrich is that if Hillary is elected president, Susan could expect to receive a high government appointment. I don't know that Hillary would actually appoint her Attorney General or Solicitor General, but perhaps Deputy AG, a Court of Appeals judgeship or a US Attorney might be realistic.
